Dear Friend,
Before every coaching session, I pause.
I close my eyes for 30 seconds.
I take three deep breaths.
And I ask myself, “How do I want to be in this conversation?”
Not: What do I want to accomplish?
Not: What tools should I use?
But: Who do I want to be?
This simple grounding ritual helps me show up with presence, curiosity, and compassion. It reminds me that coaching isn’t about performance—it’s about connection.
Try this:
Create your own pre-coaching ritual. It could be a breath, a mantra, a stretch—anything that brings you into your body and intention. Do it consistently and notice what shifts. |

P.S. We teach coaches how to bring more awareness and intentionality into their practice in The Art of Transformational Coaching. This is one of the most essential first steps. |

P.P.S. Not a coach? Not a problem. This same strategy applies to your 1:1s and anytime you facilitate! |
